Just in: Manchester United have only two weeks to activate the £44 million release clause for a Serie A star

Manchester United Must Act Fast if They Want Moise Kean from Fiorentina

Manchester United are under constant scrutiny. Each summer, expectations rise, media speculation intensifies, and fans call for clear, decisive action. The club’s leadership can’t afford another misstep, having already wasted years and vast sums on underwhelming signings.

Now, they face another critical decision. With the squad in need of goals, new manager Ruben Amorim is exploring all available options. Bryan Mbeumo was the top target, but Brentford turned down a £62.5 million offer. As a result, attention has turned to Moise Kean — and time is of the essence.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Kean has a £44 million release clause with Fiorentina, valid until July 15. That leaves Amorim just two weeks to determine whether the Italian striker, currently viewed as a backup option, is worth the risk. Kean has experience with major clubs like Juventus, Everton, and PSG, but has yet to truly shine as a leading striker.

Amorim must decide whether Kean fits into a project that’s already facing uncertainty, especially with limited financial resources. Brentford’s rejection of the Mbeumo bid forces United to reassess their strategy.

Opinion:

The big dilemma: Should United go after Kean now or wait it out? It all depends on how well he fits Amorim’s style — high pressing, direct play, and fluid movement up front. Kean offers speed and athleticism but lacks consistency. He’s not the reliable goal-scorer that top teams need. Compared to players like Victor Osimhen or Gonçalo Ramos, Kean falls short in overall effectiveness.

On the upside, Kean is familiar with the demands of top-level football and doesn’t shrink under pressure. That’s a rare quality. But his time at Juventus and PSG shows he’s mostly been used off the bench. He’s also prone to missing chances that elite forwards would bury with ease.

If United want to trigger his release clause, they need to act before July 15 — waiting might increase the price or allow other clubs to swoop in. Still, spending £44 million on a backup forward is a significant risk. That money might be better spent strengthening other areas of the team.

Amorim needs to have alternative options lined up. If he’s set on adding a fast, mobile striker, Kean could fill that role — as long as expectations are realistic. He’s not a marquee signing like Mbeumo, but in a pinch, he could add depth and unpredictability. After years of disappointing transfers, United must avoid repeating their mistakes.
