Manchester United Nearing Second Major Summer Signing After Cunha
Manchester United appear to be closing in on their second big signing of the summer following the acquisition of Matheus Cunha.
More Attacking Additions Targeted
United and INEOS got a head start in the transfer window by activating Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause, bringing him in from Wolves. Following the move, Cunha expressed his excitement, saying:
“It’s difficult to describe what it means to join Manchester United. Growing up in Brazil, I watched Premier League matches at my grandmother’s house, and United was always my favourite team. Wearing the red shirt is a dream come true. I’m grateful to my family and everyone who helped me get here.
“Now I’m focused on pre-season, meeting my teammates, and working hard to contribute to the team and help bring success back to the club.”
Cunha is expected to play in one of the two advanced midfield roles behind the striker in Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation. With that in mind, United are still in the market for more attacking options.
The club has been linked to Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres. Another top target is Bryan Mbuemo from Brentford, who has been on United’s radar for several weeks. Despite interest from Tottenham and new manager Thomas Frank, United have reportedly had a verbal agreement in place with the Cameroon international.
To convince Mbuemo to join, INEOS is prepared to offer a substantial salary package worth £13 million a year, or £250,000 per week. A recent update is likely to excite fans.
United Edging Closer to Mbuemo Deal After Productive Talks
Spanish sources suggest that Manchester United are now “very close” to finalizing a deal for Mbuemo. Talks with both the player’s representatives and Brentford have accelerated, and negotiations that have been ongoing for weeks have made major progress.
Ruben Amorim has also approved the move. While no fee has been disclosed in the latest report, United had previously seen a £55 million bid turned down, with Brentford valuing the forward at over £60 million.
