Manchester United Reportedly Submit Surprise £30m Bid for Mbeumo Alternative Amid Brentford Standoff

Reports suggest Manchester United have made a surprise £30 million bid for an alternative to Bryan Mbeumo, as club officials consider Brentford’s asking price to be too steep.

United recently strengthened their attacking lineup by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million, meeting his release clause. They’ve also been targeting Brentford’s Mbeumo following his impressive 2023–24 season, where he tallied 20 goals and 8 assists in the Premier League.

United’s initial bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was turned down by Brentford, as was a second, improved offer of £55 million with £7.5 million in add-ons. Brentford are reportedly holding out for £65 million, and Mbeumo is said to have expressed his desire to join the Red Devils.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, speaking via his YouTube channel, claims that United remain “confident and optimistic” about landing Mbeumo. He noted that while no agreement has been reached, negotiations are ongoing. United are not just focusing on the total transfer fee but also on the structure of the deal—including payment terms, installment plans, and the nature of add-ons.

However, Spanish outlet Fichajes reports a different view. They claim United’s board considers the £65 million demand too high, especially with other squad areas needing reinforcement. As a result, the club has shifted attention to a more affordable target—Ivan Toney.

Toney, who joined Al-Ahli from Brentford last summer for £40 million, is reportedly attracting renewed interest from United. They value his Premier League experience, goal-scoring ability, and physicality as assets that could help lead their attack.

According to the report, with Toney’s Transfermarkt valuation now down to £21 million, United have made an offer believed to be around €30 million (£26 million) plus €5 million (£4.3 million) in potential add-ons.
