Manchester United Submit Major Bid for Aurelien Tchouameni as Real Madrid’s Stance Becomes Clear
Manchester United have reportedly submitted a significant offer for Aurelien Tchouameni, with a Spanish source shedding light on Real Madrid’s position regarding the potential sale of the midfielder.
As two of the most prominent football clubs globally, both Real Madrid and Manchester United are actively working to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window. While Real aim to reclaim both the LaLiga and Champions League titles, United’s primary target for the upcoming season is securing a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Madrid have already been busy in the market, bringing in three new players under recently appointed manager Xabi Alonso: Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, and Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, who will join after turning 18 in August.
United, meanwhile, have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. The Red Devils are also in negotiations to land Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, and recent reports suggest Tchouameni has emerged as a key target for manager Ruben Amorim.
According to journalist Eduardo Inda on El Chiringuito, United have tabled a €90 million (£77.5 million/$105.5 million) bid for the French international. Inda claimed: “Manchester United have submitted an offer for a player that Xabi Alonso admires greatly—Aurélien Tchouaméni. He is excelling at the Club World Cup, and United have put forward a €90 million proposal.”
Tchouameni, who joined Madrid from AS Monaco in 2022, has played 145 games for the Spanish club, scoring five goals and providing six assists. Despite being a natural midfielder, he was often used in central defense last season due to injuries in the squad—an adjustment described by Defensa Central as an intriguing transformation.
Real Madrid’s Response to United’s Offer
Despite United’s substantial bid, Real Madrid reportedly have no interest in selling Tchouameni this summer. Defensa Central states that the club is not prepared to part ways with the 25-year-old.
Manager Xabi Alonso values Tchouameni’s versatility highly, especially his ability to perform both in midfield and as a defender. Speaking after Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals, Alonso praised the player’s tactical intelligence:
“Aurelien Tchouameni shaped our system today. We gave him the freedom to assess the game and position himself accordingly. At times he pushed up; at others, he dropped back into a five-man defense. He executed it excellently.”
