Viktor Gyökeres Reassesses Man United Option as Arsenal Talks Stall

Viktor Gyökeres, who netted 54 goals in 52 matches last season, has prioritized a move to Arsenal this summer and has already turned down an offer from Juventus.

Manchester United have also been made aware of Gyökeres’ desire to join Arsenal, while former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim—now at United—is looking to bring in a new striker before the Premier League season begins.

However, Arsenal’s negotiations with Sporting have hit a roadblock, as the Portuguese club is holding firm on their €80 million (£68.6 million) valuation.

Arsenal’s most recent bid totals €65 million (£56 million) plus €15 million (£13 million) in add-ons, but Sporting insist on receiving €70 million (£60 million) upfront, with another €10 million (£8.6 million) in performance-related bonuses.

According to Correio da Manhã, Gyökeres is now “reconsidering” his options. While Arsenal remains his preferred destination, he is reportedly starting to seriously consider a move to United.

However, Record reports that Gyökeres has previously turned down United three times. Despite this, Manchester United, Atlético Madrid, and Juventus are all reportedly ready to meet Sporting’s asking price of €70 million plus €10 million in bonuses.

Gyökeres maintains a close bond with Amorim from their time together at Sporting, before Amorim left for Manchester United in November.

Speaking to France Football this week, Gyökeres expressed gratitude for Amorim’s influence on his growth as a player.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here from day one and have grown a lot with this team,” he said. “We’ve shared great memories—winning back-to-back league titles, something that hadn’t been done in 71 years, which is incredible.

“Amorim played a huge role in that. He pushed for me to join and his tactical style suited me perfectly. I’m truly thankful for everything he did.”
