Breaking: Wilfred Ndidi is targeting a transfer to Manchester United this summer and could prove to be a cost-effective addition

Manchester United are expected to strengthen their squad with several new signings this summer.

So far, the club has secured the services of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Meanwhile, negotiations continue with Brentford over a potential move for Bryan Mbeumo.

Midfield reinforcements may also be on the cards. Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City has emerged as a target, and speculation has grown after comments from his friend Julius Aghahowa.

According to Aghahowa, although Everton and Saudi side Al-Ahli have shown interest in the Nigerian international, Ndidi’s preferred destination is Manchester United. He views the move as a step forward in his career.

Speaking to SportWitness, Aghahowa stated: “While Everton and Al-Ahli are clearly interested, Ndidi’s goal is to sign for Manchester United. He wants to advance his career by joining a top club like United.”

Ndidi, whose asking price is reportedly £9 million, could prove to be a budget-friendly option.

At present, United rely on Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte in the defensive midfield role. Casemiro has struggled with form, particularly against high-pressing teams, while Ugarte—signed from PSG last summer—has been inconsistent and was benched towards the end of the season.

Manager Ruben Amorim may seek a new holding midfielder for the upcoming campaign, although funds could be limited as the club prioritizes strengthening their attack.

Given Leicester’s relegation, Ndidi represents good value at £9 million. Despite his team’s struggles, he performed admirably—averaging 6.3 duels won, 3 tackles, 2.6 clearances, and 4.5 recoveries per game, along with an 82% pass accuracy.

Earning £75,000 a week, the Nigerian midfielder could bring solid defensive cover to United. Though he may not be a guaranteed starter, his presence would add depth and stability to the midfield.

Ndidi’s preference to join United over other suitors is clear. It remains to be seen whether the club will act on their interest and trigger his release clause.
