OTAs Are Approaching, and Not All Chargers Starters Are Safe
As the LA Chargers get ready for organized team activities (OTAs), some players may find their starting roles in jeopardy. These practices offer the first real glimpse at how the 2025 roster might shape up, and early impressions could shift the depth chart—possibly at the expense of current starters.
There’s still a long way to go before the regular season kicks off in Week 1, but a strong or weak performance in OTAs can leave a lasting impression on head coach Jim Harbaugh. Some players could see their starting roles vanish as early as this offseason period.
Three Chargers Starters Who Could Be Replaced During OTAs:
1. WR Quentin Johnston
Currently projected to start at the Z receiver spot, Quentin Johnston is joined by Ladd McConkey in the slot and rookie Tre Harris (still unsigned) at the X. While Harris is naturally suited to the X, he’s versatile enough to line up at Z as well—an option the Chargers could explore if Johnston continues to underperform. With veteran Mike Williams also in the mix, the team has flexibility. If Johnston’s issues with dropped passes persist, he could find himself slipping down the depth chart.
2. OL Bradley Bozeman
Although Bozeman has earned respect for his leadership and experience, his on-field performance has been questionable. Last season, he ranked near the bottom in pass-blocking metrics among centers. The coaching staff is experimenting with moving him to left guard and shifting Zion Johnson to center, though that may not solve their problems. Ideally, Johnson grows into his role at guard while Andre James steps up at center. If that happens, OTAs could mark the beginning of Bozeman’s move to a reserve role.
3. LB Denzel Perryman
Despite being a key locker room presence and bringing much-needed toughness to the defense, Perryman faces stiff competition from younger, high-upside players like Daiyan Henley and Junior Colson. Henley is entering his third season with breakout potential, while Colson is also expected to take on a bigger role. Even if Perryman remains in the rotation, he may no longer be one of the primary starters once OTAs conclude.
