Just In: One Bold Move Could Make the Tigers AL Contenders Overnight

The Detroit Tigers have emerged as one of the top teams in Major League Baseball this 2025 season. Thanks to a dominant starting rotation, the team is expected to actively pursue offensive reinforcements at the upcoming trade deadline. One name being linked to Detroit is Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.

“The Tigers are legitimate contenders. Expect them to be aggressive at the deadline, particularly in strengthening their bullpen and lineup. Their biggest need is a power-hitting third baseman. Much like the Mariners, bringing back Suárez—now with Arizona—could be an ideal fit. The Diamondbacks might shift prospect Jordan Lawlar to third base to prepare for next season, giving him experience during the second half,” Bowden explained.

Suárez, who’s tied for third in the National League with 19 home runs, would be a natural fit in Detroit’s lineup. With the Diamondbacks sitting fourth in the NL West and possibly eyeing a rebuild, trading Suárez could make sense. Acquiring him would also prevent rivals like the New York Yankees from adding a big bat, making the move even more appealing for Detroit.

Keeping Suárez out of New York’s hands could help elevate the Tigers past the Yankees in the American League standings. Currently, Detroit ranks third in runs scored, trailing the Yankees who sit in first. Adding a power threat like Suárez to the batting order could energize Tigers fans.

Projected Tigers Lineup with Eugenio Suárez:

  1. Parker Meadows, CF
  2. Gleyber Torres, 2B
  3. Riley Greene, LF
  4. Eugenio Suárez, 3B
  5. Kerry Carpenter, RF
  6. Spencer Torkelson, 1B
  7. Zach McKinstry, DH
  8. Dillon Dingler, C
  9. Javier Báez, SS

This lineup has depth and power, capable of challenging elite MLB pitching. And with names like Colt Keith still in reserve, it underscores how deep this Tigers team could become with one major deadline addition. Though they missed out on Alex Bregman during the offseason, a trade for Suárez could be the catalyst that pushes Detroit toward a serious shot at the AL pennant.
