Smith, who played college ball at Alabama, stood out in his junior year with 113 strikeouts and only 20 walks in 98 1/3 innings. He features a fastball that touches 96 mph and a mid-80s slider that serves as his primary strikeout weapon. He also throws a highly effective slurve with sharp movement.
